Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage, or pre-natal massage, is specifically designed for expectant mothers. At ME Massage, the expectant mother’s body is supported during the massage, using pillows, bolsters, or other types of padding for side lying posture. We also may use a table designed specifically for pregnancy with cut outs for the chest and abdomen.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is the most common type of massage at the spa. Swedish massage combines various hands-on techniques including gliding, kneading, and cross-fiber friction to break up muscle knots, called adhesions. Swedish massage is based on the Western concepts of anatomy and physiology as opposed to energy work. It can be slow and gentle, or vigorous and bracing, depending on what the therapist wants to achieve based off the goals discussed in your consultation.
Medical Massage
Medical massage is generally geared towards athletes and usually given before or after an athletic event. Before an event, it is used to promote peak performance, improve flexibility, and reduce the risk of injury. It is used after an event to help reduce muscle soreness and swelling, break down toxins, increase blood circulation and recovery post- injury.
Specific bodywork is a manual technique that is used in a rehabilitative therapy environment. It is not a general massage treatment like Swedish; rather, it is a therapy applied to a specific problem area or pathology. This technique can be used regardless of athletic ability in efforts to speed up and improve the quality of healing.
On-Site Chair Massage
Chair or “Seated” massage makes use of a special, comfortable massage chair that the fully clothed client is seated in and receives treatment on the back, neck, arms, and hands. The 10-15 minute chair massage can help release stress, muscle tension/ pain, repetitive work injuries, poor immune systems and employee ”burn out”. All while increasing relaxation, circulation to promote concentration for problem solving, and comradery within the workplace. It is very helpful for employees who sit for long hours and/or use computers, meeting the demands of deadlines and rapidly changing technology. Chair massage has been effectively been relieving stress in the workplace for over two decades from CEO’s and hourly workers alike. Where?? In my office or YOURS, at a special event, health fairs or used as an employee incentive program.
Senior Massage
The healing touch of massage can be a profound comfort during those long days at home or in a care facility. Gentle massage can relieve pain, decrease loneliness, help one to let go of anxiety, stress and tension. Massage can enhance the quality of life for those less active due to age, illness or disability. Massage can be a pleasurable, healthy way to truly attend to one’s needs.
What to expect? There will be an intake form to fill out (by individual, guardian or staff nurse), a consultation and then brief overview of what will be assessed for that particular session. A massage session can last 10-30 minutes or longer depending on one’s physical condition, mental state and tolerance to touch. Sessions can vary considerably to meet the needs of each individual, a hand or foot massage to a complete full body massage. Sometimes the greatest benefits come from the massage therapist being present, actively listening and maintaining supportive, gentle physical contact applied to one isolated area, for example the hands or shoulders.
